We currently operate 7 district-based elementary CABAS® classrooms under the administration of Rockland County (NY) BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services). All district-based classes have a student-to-teacher-to-teaching assistant ratio of 8:1:2. Children are grouped according to age as well as academic, social, communication, self-management, and behavioral needs.
Our seven district-based CABAS® classes are housed within regular public schools. Within these public school settings, our students are afforded opportunities to integrate with their typically developing peers. When appropriate, and as per their IEPs, our students are mainstreamed with regular-education students in both academic and non-academic subjects. Thus, strengths and weaknesses in academic skills, social skills, and self-management skills are taken into consideration when placing students in these settings. All of our classroom teachers hold New York State certification in both regular and special education in early childhood and childhood education and are current Ph.D. students in the program in Teaching as Applied Behavior Analysis (TABA) at Teachers College. All of our teachers have completed at least 2 CABAS® Board Certified Teacher ranks. The teaching assistants in our CABAS® classes hold NYS Teaching Assistant certification and many are Masters students in the TABA program. On-site mentoring and supervision is provided 5 days per week by CABAS® Board certified behavior analysts and consultants.
